Malnutrition is a major reason for kids facing multiple issues. In young children it is common especially in economically, socially and educationally disadvantaged families hence it becomes a major reason for visual impairment in kids from an early age. Shishuvihar started conducting eye check up camps in municipality schools and is providing spectacles to children who need them for free. Every year free medicine, vitamin tablets and spectacles are distributed to the needy children in school under the guidance of expert doctors.

Lack of nutrition amongst children leads to multiple health issues at that age or might get developed at a later stage too. Dropped Hemoglobin levels and the diseases related to this are also prominent. To get this on a descent, Shishuvihar initiated a program where hemoglobin levels are tested in children of the municipal corporation schools. Children who have low HB are provided with medication along with this, the girls are provided with iron folic acid tablets for consumption for a stipulated time period. Shishuvihar covers around 80 Schools every year

Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation witnesses a huge number of malnourished children. Shishuvihar plays a vital role by providing nutrition food packets every week to all these 316 Aaganwadi schools and has successfully scooped out a lot of children from the danger of malnutrition

This nutrition food has been prepared under the guidance of a pediatric food nutritionist. It includes 11.90% Fat, 26.68%Glucose, and 73.27% Carbohydrates. This runs as a successful model across Bhavnagar and teachers have noted an increased presence on that particular day of the students because of the food being provided everyday.

Shishuvihar works in two aspects to serve in this area. Since 1968, regular Eye-relief camps have been held at Shishuvihar where the patients undergo an eye check up and are provided with medications and spectacles if needed. Also if the patient is suspected with the need of cataract operation, he is enrolled in the program and given a date on which she/he can come with a companion and can go for the cataract operation which takes place outside of Bhavnagar. The travel, food and accommodation of the patient along with a companion is arranged by Shishuvihar. 24 such camps are organised annually.

We have a mobile clinic that goes around in the rural areas surrounding Bhavnagar and conducts free eye check up camps for the communities and provides spectacles and medicines to whoever is in need. 20 Such villages are covered every year by Shishuvihar and a total of 140 camps have taken place.

There are a lot of people who are discharged from the hospitals to be brought home yet need special care and assistance. Understanding this, Shishu vihar has come up with a centre that provides various medical equipment free of cost with a minimum deposit amount for a stipulated time period. The medical equipments are Wheelchair, Walker, Stick, Toilet-Chair, Beds, Airbeds, Urine Pot and other such equipments which might come handy for people.

Shishuvihar has undertaken various activities for the well-being of the citizens. The Ukada Parab (medicinal detox drink station) was started in 1995. Medicinal drink is served at the Ukada Parab with ayurvedic herbs that fight against various diseases. Residents in the vicinity of Shishuvihar and children of Shishuvihar Kindergarten, guests and parents get the benefit of Ukada Parab absolutely free of cost. On an average, around 250 citizens are benefitted of this medicinal drink on a daily basis.
